Agronomy Division is one of the biggest research division of BARI and contributing significantly to increase crop productivity through development of different agronomic management practices. The division conducts research on Cropping System, Crop and Weed Management, Multiple Cropping, Adaptation to Climate Change and Unfavorable Ecosystems. Selection of suitable crops and variety to improve cropping system is very important for crop intensification and diversification. Research thrust as follows:

  • Addressing unfavorable ecosystems like coastal, charland, haor, hilly area, barind area, drought, high temperature, rainfed ecosystems
  • Emphasise on multiple cropping like sequential cropping, mixed cropping, intercropping, strip Ccopping, nutrient rich cropping pattern;
  • Abiotic stress management, biotic stress (weed) management;
  • System productivity enhancement, crop residue and nutrient management, agroclimate and productivity, carbon sequestration;
  • Efficient use of natural resources (light, water, nutrient) and production inputs;
  • Adaptation and upscalling of technology
